The Magic of Christmas Lights |
|

I really love the month of December. I enjoy driving home from work in
the early evening and watching all the lovely Christmas lights on the
outside of people’s homes. Sometimes the layer of snow on the ground or
some falling snowflakes gives the Christmas lights a magnificent glow
that makes me feel like I’m in a fairytale. I know some people who
can't stand the cold weather and are not really fond of the Christmas
season, but I love the entire holiday season.
The magic of the season is intensified by all of the Christmas décor and lights. All the malls are decorated with thousands of lights and there is always festive music playing in the background. The radio stations would also play some festive music in their hourly play lists.
I am amused whenever I hear my husband complains about the holiday season because he'll be recruited to decorate the outside of our house with the Christmas lights. I am always amazed by how tangled they somehow become over the year, even though we carefully put them away at the end of every season. My husband now opens the holiday boxes outside our house after he found a mouse nest in the midst of the Christmas lights a few years ago.
We decorate the front porch rails and shrubbery with white lights. I always made sure that they look perfect before I let him walk away from his decorating chores. I can be really annoyed at people who don't take the time to decorate neatly. Some people seem to just throw the Christmas lights on their outdoor trees and leave them there as decorations.
Christmas is a unique season. The decorations can be so elegant and heavenly. Last year, a park near our home was decorated with thousands of Christmas lights. It opened every evening during the holiday season and walking through it was really an adventure. The children can visit Santa and the park brings in real reindeers to add to the spirit. My children loved all of the décor, and I adored all the wonderful Christmas lights.
